On Earth, our summer night sky points toward the Center of our own Galaxy (GC) shown above in a visible picture with long exposure. When you look in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius this summer, you'll be looking toward the center of the Milky Way. But the plane of our Galaxy is so full of dust and gas that we can't see the center with visible light.
